Season Preview: Guildford Heat

Guildford Heat coach Creon Raftopoulos has blended a mixture of familiar faces as the Surrey side looks to move up the BBL Championship table in 2011/12.

Guildford Heat coach Creon Raftopoulos has blended a mixture of familiar faces as the Surrey side looks to move up the BBL Championship table in 2011/12.

The heat had a good end to the season, reaching the trophy final and qualifying for the playoffs. But a few slip-ups mid season cost them a better position in the standings.

Raftopoulous has re signed four key players for 2011/12 and it was no surprise that captain Mike Martin was the first to sign up. In seven seasons Martin has been with the club, he literally owns the Heat record book claiming every honor in the game and topping the list for every discipline including points and assists.

After Martin signed, fellow former England internationals joined him with the likes of Julius Joseph and Tayo Ogedenbe penning contracts.
The signing of young American Point Guard Brandon Shingles should eject some pace into the heat offence and hopefully higher in the 2011/12 BBL standings.

Roster:

Head Coach: Creon Raftopoulos

One to watch: Brandon Shingles- a young 24 year old in his second year as a pro, he truly is a bright spark in the game. He spent last season in Germany and his coach said he is a fantastic player with the potential to play in the NBA one day. His leadership skills are valuable to any team and he certainly knows how to run a good offence.

Completed Roster TBA soon
