Lyons: We weren’t good enough

Sheffield Sharks coach Atiba Lyons conceded that his side just weren’t good enough as they suffered a big home loss to Newcastle on Friday night.

Sheffield Sharks coach Atiba Lyons conceded that his side just weren’t good enough as they suffered a big home loss to Newcastle on Friday night.

The Sharks had made a winning start to their campaign but were outplayed by the Eagles, who led from start to finish at EIS Sheffield.

Lyons said: “We came into the game complacent and they really jumped on us from the start and we didn’t hit our shots and they did.

“Newcastle did what they are good at and we never really seemed to respond it, and when we did (on the third quarter) it was too late.”

The Sharks were hindered by their inability to grab three-pointers throughout the match, as they landed just one, compared to a decisive 14 from Fab Flournoy’s men.

Lyons added: “It doesn’t help when other team hits them so well, some of it was down to the way we defended and them just hitting hard shots. But in general, I just think we weren’t good enough tonight.”
