Durham chief looks to build on first win

Durham coach Dave Elderkin is looking for his side to kick-on in the BBL, following last week’s win over Cheshire, when they face Worcester on Saturday.

The Wildcats travel to the University of Worcester having won on their championship debut, and they will face a Wolves side who also have one league win to their name this team, against Glasgow Rocks.

Elderkin said: “We’re looking to build on it. We had practice on Sunday so that our minds were still fresh from the previous day’s game, and we needed to iron out a few wrinkles. We got an early look at the game tapes, and that will be important when we play Worcester.

“I don’t know much about them, but they’ve got some players left from last year, and I know Paul James. We did play their university side recently, and it was an interesting game as we won by 33! But it was on the day they played at Guildford Heat in the BBL Trophy, so I think all their BBL players who would have been eligible were there instead.”

Worcester must first face a test in the shape of Mersey Tigers in their BBL Cup quarter-final clash on Friday evening, and coach Paul James is expecting a tough encounter.

He said: “Like Tigers, the Wildcats will also be well organised, and a very patient team offensively. They have got their first win now and will be coming down to Worcester with a lot of confidence.”
