Frustrated Creon looks to re-group

Guildford coach Creon Raftopoulos has been left frustrated and with lots to ponder following ten straight defeats in the BBL this term.

The Heat have a few weeks off to re-group after losing five from five in the Championship, four in the BBL Trophy and being eliminated from the BBL Cup.

It has led to a couple of changes within the Guildford roster, including the departure of Brandon Shingles and the acquisition of former Glasgow MVP Mike Copeland.

Speaking to John Hobbs on the TalkBasket.net Podcast, Raftopoulos said: “I’m concerned about the start we’ve made.

“The frustrating part is we’ve been there or there abouts apart from in two games. We’ve been in every single one up until maybe the three minute mark.

“Sometimes you get calls, sometimes you don’t. It’s not a very comfortable position to be in, but we’re trying to do something about it.”

Raftopoulos also spoke out about his frustration at the BBL schedule, which bizarrely has left his team without a game for four weeks, and just one game in the whole of November.

He added: “We’ve played 10 games and some teams haven’t played close to that.

“At the beginning of the season I maybe made a mistake looking at our schedule too closely, and not at others. When I look back, I feel hard done by in terms of the schedule we’ve had to play.

“We started with back-to-back games on a Saturday and Sunday in that first week when the players are not up to speed or conditioned to do that.

“The schedule has been pretty tough, but we’ve got a bit of time now to re-group.”
