Tigers look for quick revenge

Mersey Tigers coach Tony Garbelotto is looking for an instant response from his players as they get an immediate chance to right the wrongs of last week’s defeat to Worcester.

Mersey Tigers coach Tony Garbelotto is looking for an instant response from his players as they get an immediate chance to right the wrongs of last week’s defeat to Worcester.

The Tigers crashed out of the BBL Cup with a 91-62 defeat at the hands of the Wolves, and they return to Knowsley this Friday in the BBL championship.

Garbelotto was disappointed with his side’s display last weekend.

He said: “No one stood out for us. I was disappointed with our overall effort and we were dominated in almost every area of the game.

“Their three Americans scored 72 points between, that’s all that needs to be said. All three had very, very strong games. We need to improve upon everything, but mostly consistent effort for 40 minutes. We are not that far away from been a competitive and effective team but everyone needs to put more effort on the floor.”

Tigers will hope to field new signing Marlin Capers, but Wolves coach Paul James seems undaunted by a repeat visit north.

He said: “(Last week) In the first half we looked like a team that had not played for a while which had been the case. We had too many unforced errors in the first half and were not as focused as we should have been.

“The second half was much improved after a little chat and I hope that we can play to this level, but from the start this time against the Tigers!”
