Green leading the race to MVP

Glasgow’s Mychal Green is currently in pole position for the BBL MVP award, according to blogger Sam Chadwick in his bi-monthly look at the league’s standout performers.

The Race to M.V.P continues this week with a rather different line-up, if you haven’t seen last week’s entry check it out here. Mychal Green takes control of the top spot thanks to a dominant November performance which also got him the BBL Player of the Month honours.

1. Mychal Green – Glasgow Rocks – Averages of 25.8 points per game, 4.6 assists and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 57% on 3pt shots earned Mychal November player of the month, he is averaging 21.5 points across all games so far, good for 2nd in the league to go with 4.4 assists, 2.1 steals and 6.9 rebounds, including 2.6 offensive. The Rocks also won their match-up with Demarius Bolds and the MK Lions. The Rocks have won 5 of 8 so far this season.

2. Demarius Bolds – MK Lions – Demarius has moved down a position in this weeks ‘Race to M.V.P’ due to the phenomenal month of Mychal Green, his numbers however stated strong continuing to lead the league in P.P.G with 24, he also adds 7.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists to go with 3.8 steals and 84% shooting from the charity stripe. The Lions currently stand at 2 wins and 4 losses.

3. Bill Cole – Cheshire Jets – A solid month has increased Bill’s numbers to 3rd best in the league, he is currently averaging 21.1 points per game, 8.4 rebounds (including 2.4 offensives), 1.1 blocks and 1.4 assists, his FG shooting is solid hitting 65% including 13 three-pointers made this season. Bills numbers have been inflated as of late due to the loss of Matthew Schneck.

4. Joe Chapman – Newcastle Eagles – The league’s best team continue to beat everyone having not lost a game so far this season (7-0). Joe has been their un-questioned leader averaging 20.6 points per game (4th overall) 4 assists and 3.4 rebounds so far.

5. Cameron Rundles – Leicester Riders – Cameron continues his solid play for the 4 win, 1 loss Riders, he is averaging 20.0 points per outing to go with 4.4 assists per game, 3.6 rebounds and 1 steal, he is also shooting 39% from 3pt.

6. Richie Gordon – Worcester Wolves – Richie has been one of the best centres in the league as of late, his averages have increased to 17 points per game (10th overall), 7.9 rebounds (13th) and 1.1 blocks, added to Tommy Freeman and Sherrad Prezzie-Blue the Wolves have a solid core and currently stand at 2nd in the league with 6 wins and 2 losses.

7. Ayron Hardy – Leicester Riders – One of the league’s best all-around players Ayron does a bit of everything, season averages of 16.3 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 1 blocks, 2.6 assists and 2 steals show why Ayron was October player of the month.

8. Adam Brown – Cheshire Jets – Adam is currently the league’s second leading man in assist, dishing out 5.6 per game, however passing the rock is not the only things he can do, he also contributes 17.1 points per game, 2.3 steals (5th overall) and 3.4 rebounds.

9. Justin Dobbins – Sheffield Sharks – Being among the league leaders in both points and rebounds will get you noticed in the ‘Race to M.V.P’ and Justin is currently averaging 16.3 points per game, 8.9 rebounds, 0.9 blocks and 1 assists for the Sharks who currently stand at 3 wins and 4 losses.

10. Jeremy Bell – Plymouth Raiders – After being 2nd overall in points 2 weeks ago Jeremy has moved down to 6th at 18.6 points per game, he adds 1.8 steals, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists but has hit only 1/12 from long range.

Honourable Mention:

Andrew Thomson (Eagles) 16 points per game & 7.9 rebounds while hitting 45% 3pt.
Mychal Hesson (Tigers) 16.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1 block per game.
Nate Rainking (Sharks) 17.7 points per game, 2.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists.
Devan Bailey (Tigers) Leading the league with 5.8 assists per game.
Matthew Schneck (Jets) averaging 13.8 rebounds (1st) and 16.8 points (13th).
