Glavan in for Riders test

DJ Glavan will make his home debut for the Durham Wildcats in the BBL this weekend, when they take on Leicester Riders.

Glavan was drafted in to the Wildcats roster to replace Fred Hinnenkamp for the New Year’s Day defeat to Guildford.

Coach Dave Elderkin said: “After a review we’ve made a change and drafted DJ Glavan into our squad replacing Fred Hinnenkamp. It wasn’t to do with Fred, we simply needed more ball handling. We’ll miss Fred’s shooting but felt DJ would free up other players to take shots, particularly off ‘drive and kick’.

“DJ is our BUCS point guard and had been ‘out on loan’ to Tees Valley Mohawks. One minute he’s lining up to play against the Leopards in the semi-final of the EBL cup, the next he’s making his BBL debut against the Sharks and having to rearrange his travel arrangements over the Christmas period to return in time to play Guildford on New Years Day.”

With the Riders having already beaten Wildcats 97-64 in mid-December, Elderkin knows the size of the task facing his team.

He said: “Riders are one of two teams to beat us by 30 points – they did a great job on us and played really well as a team with Cameron Rundles and Ayron Hardy leading the way – I don’t think Hardy missed a shot.”
