Hesson aiming high

Myles Hesson has made a big impact on the BBL this season and believes hard work can help him fulfill his national aspirations.

Hesson has already represented Great Britain at the under-20’s level and has challenged himself to make the step up to the senior team. Hesson said: “I’ve got to keep working hard and improving then hopefully I will be able to break into the men’s team in years to come”

The 20 year old is now in his second season in the league having spent last season with the Essex Pirates. Hesson had a frustrating year, having to watch from the sidelines for the majority after suffering a fractured ankle in October 2010. The Essex Pirates were forced to withdraw from the league due to financial reasons and Hesson was snapped up by the Mersey Tigers.

Hesson showed glimpses of his potential for the Pirates and obviously caught the eye of the Mersey Tigers coach, Tony Garbelotto. Joining the treble-winning Tigers was going to be a big challenge and the forward is aware of the high expectations. “Playing for a team that had so much success last season has it’s pressures because everyone expects you to perform at a high level all the time” admitted Hesson. Statistically, Myles has already scored over 200 points this season with an average of slightly less than 15 ppg.

Despite Hesson’s personal success, Mersey are currently in 10th position but the youngster has not given up hope of making the play-offs for the first time. ” I believe we can make the play-offs and anything can happen after that” said Hesson. From a personal perspective, Myles hopes to continue improving and keep his averages up and if he does continue to impress. Hesson aims to be apart of the GB future’s set-up in the summer (if anything is arranged) but with the London Olympics set to take centre stage in August- anything is possible.
