Jets look to build play-off momentum

Cheshire Jets will be looking to build on last week’s stunning win over Glasgow when they host league leaders Newcastle on Sunday.

John Lavery’s men fought back from 19 points down to 80-78 and give their play-off aspirations a huge shot in the arm, with the win lifting them up to 8th place in the BBL table.

But the coach knows that it is a far greater task that lies in store for the Jets when the Eagles, who have lost just once all season, come to town.

He said: “They are flying high at the moment, they only have one league loss.

“You can’t really single anybody out, on any given night any of the Newcastle players can have a big night. They have strength and depth all over the floor.

“When we played them early on in the season at the Northgate we lost by seven points. We just need to maintain our recent form and maintain our focus on what we need to do for 40 minutes.”

The Jets will be hoping that a weary Newcastle roll up in the north west on Sunday – with Fab Flournoy’s men facing a gruelling trip to Plymouth on Friday night, and the coach admits he won’t be taking them lightly.

Flournoy said: “Jets have been hit by injuries and their recent win at Glasgow suggests they are better than their record suggests. However they are playing though, they are always tough at Northgate.
