Martin praises Lasker impact
Guildford captain Mike Martin has praised the impact of Drew Lasker in igniting their play-off bid.
Guildford captain Mike Martin has praised the impact of Drew Lasker in igniting their play-off bid.
Heat pulled off a surprise 95-85 win over Plymouth last weekend to lift them level on points with Cheshire Jets in 8th place in the BBL table, with both side’s on an identical 6-12 record.
Lasker, 29, joined the Heat mid-way through the current campaign, and has scored 157 points in 11 Championship appearances for the club so far.
Martin said: “Drew’s huge for us. I think he’s only had one bad game. Having him on the court is great. He’s a big guard and he has the patience to set us up and he knows when to go. He settles us down a lot, and it’s great having him on board.”
Guildford play Milton Keynes tonight in a game which could have a big say in the final make-up of the play-off spots.
Heat find themselves just one win behind the Lions, with two games in hand, and Martin believes last week’s win could kick-start their run in.
He added: “It was a very good win for us, I’m well chuffed with it to be honest, and it was long over-due. We’re playing a lot better, we’re beginning to identify our roles — it’s better late than never, but we’re doing okay.”
