Leicester and Plymouth keep up chase

Both Plymouth and Leicester kept up their pursuit of second placed Worcester with wins over Sheffield and Guildford respectively on Saturday night.

Plymouth kept up their push for second place in the BBL with a routine win over Sheffield.

The Sharks, backing up from Friday’s 99-82 win over Mersey Tigers, were never really in the contest, and it was only a high scoring fourth quarter that added respectability to the scoreline.

Jeremy Bell top scored with 24 for the Raiders, who led 25-16 after the first quarter, and were 18 points to the good at half time.

The third quarter continued in much the same vein until the Sharks salvaged some pride, winning the fourth quarter by 11 points.

Mike Tuck, once again playing in front of his mum in the crowd, landed 19 points, bettered only by Ryan Patton (23) and Jimmy Langhurst (20).

It was a similar story in Leicester, as toothless Guildford let the game slip from their grasp in the first half, against a Riders side also looking to keep up their push for second in the BBL.

With Worcester winning once again, the Riders, like Plymouth, were keen to keep their number of losses to five, and in truth, it was never under threat.

A six point lead after ten minutes was turned in to a 20 point half time advantage, and by the start of the fourth quarter, Rob Paternostro’s men had opened up a 27 point gap.

Bradd Wierzbicki (24), Cameron Rundles (23) and Ayron Hardy (18) were the top scorers for Leicester, who finished 106-80 winners.
