Worcester coach: Leicester have had the best of us all season

Worcester Wolves coach Paul James has called on his team to finish the regular BBL season strongly this weekend, specifically referring to the need to step it up against the Leicester Riders.

James’ team have already qualified for the end of season play-offs of course, but he wants his team to finish well as they look to hold onto 2nd position,  taking momentum into the final part of the campaign in the process.

This weekend sees Worcester compete in a home game against Leicester – who they have lost twice to this season – before travelling to Plymouth on Sunday.

Speaking about the upcoming weekend, James told bblfans.com: “We look forward to every game. It is now our final two games of the regular season. Leicester have had the best of us all season long, so we will be aiming to perform a bit better against them.”

“Plymouth – we have had some games where we have been poor again, but when we have been good against them we have been very good. So we are looking forward to getting down there and playing.”

The dramatic 85-84 defeat to Newcastle Eagles is still fresh in the memory of everyone at Worcester Wolves of course. The league leaders secured victory in the last minute and James admits it was a tough defeat to take.

However, he was pleased with the way his players responded the next day as they defeated Guildford Heat 85-77 in their most recent BBL game.

He continued: “I was pleased with the performance [against Guildford] because after losing to Newcastle in the last minute of the game, we didn’t have too much time to recover. We came in against Guildford and responded really well right from the off.”

“The Newcastle defeat was hard to take, but it was two very good teams desperate to win a basketball match. There were some periods where it was scrappy and some periods with some very good basketball.”

“It was difficult in terms of the fact we lost, but we remained professional and bounced back the next day against Guildford.”

James will now hope his team continue the winning habit against Leicester and Plymouth this weekend.
