Flournoy delight at Newcastle progress

While rivals Worcester and Plymouth crashed out of the BBL play-offs, table-toppers Newcastle coasted past Guildford, much to the delight of coach Fab Flournoy.

While rivals Worcester and Plymouth crashed out of the BBL play-offs, table-toppers Newcastle coasted past Guildford, much to the delight of coach Fab Flournoy.

The 167-125 aggregate victory over the Heat keeps the Eagles on course for a clean sweep of BBL silverware this season, having already picked up the BBL Cup, BBL Trophy and BBL Championship titles.

Cheshire Jets are the next hurdle for the Eagles, as they look to reach the showpiece final at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on May 12th.

Flournoy said: “We are delighted to have navigated the first round and won both legs, that was a specific target for us.

“Credit to Guildford, the second leg was very competitive and as well as good play from our starters, I was really happy with the way our bench played.”

The winner of the Eagles-Jets semi-final will take on Leicester Riders or Glasgow Rocks for the play-off trophy. The Rocks pulled off a win over Plymouth Raiders, while the Riders dominated their quarter-final clash against Sheffield Sharks.
